OUR ETHOS

The name Petrichor was chosen for the visceral, grounded feeling that comes from the smell of rain on the earth. It's a scent that is universally known.

The name was also chosen because petrichor is fundamentally about noticing change. Anyone who has experienced that smell has felt a heightened awareness that something biological, environmental, or otherwise, is shifting around them.

The planet is going through incredible change right now. Ecosystems and biodiversity are under constant threat, data centers and the exponential advancement of technology are reshaping our world, and uncertain economic and geopolitical times have made it hard to feel positive about the future.

As the way we consume information and engage with each other keeps changing, we believe real connections and real stories matter more than ever. As people become more disparate and separated from the communities around them, we see a growing need and hunger for human and earth-centered storytelling.

OUR EXPERIENCE

The Petrichor Project was built out of a deep desire to connect with the Earth, build stronger communities, and help organizations do critical nature-based work across field ecosystems here in the Pacific Northwest. We strive to be environmental stewards, passionate conservationists, and dedicated community members.

Our professional experience spans remote fieldwork, community outreach, hands-on conservation, public education, non-profit grant management, and corporate sustainability consulting, with the ability to go broad across topics and go deep with the science.

Our creative vision is collaborative, but comes from an intersectional and empathetic point of view grounded in experience across a variety of sectors. With The Petrichor Project, your organization gets a unique combination of skills, from understanding complex science to presenting information in ways that are accessible and engaging for a variety of audiences. The Petrichor Project starts by understanding your organization's history and purpose, so that any work taken on is grounded in what's true for you now and into the future. There's no one-size-fits-all approach for organizations as unique as yours, and every engagement is built to last beyond a single project.

Our partnership works the way a forest depends on its mycorrhizal network, a web of connection that shares resources and strengthens everyone in it. At the end of each project, you have the option to contribute to a knowledge hub. This is a forum where you can share information about your organization’s mission-related activities with other like-minded organizations across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
